Post Production: Editing
Editing is the process of arranging the video and sound clips, music and sound effects into a timeline which creates the film. Editing is a vital stage in creating the story, since it determines the movies narrative, so much so that really the final movie is the sum of the editing process.
The Editing Process
- Footage from the cameras is captured and converted into digital format on computers
- Sound and video tracks are synchronized
- These synched clips are arranged into the movie timeline
- Basic film processing is applied:
- Cropping
- Scaling
- Rotating
- Time remapping (slow motion, speed ups etc)
- Picture in picture effects
- The transition effects between clips such as fade-outs and hard cuts are added
- Sound levels and balance are tweaked, filtered and cleaned
- Music and sound effects are added
Skilled Editing is a Creative Art
Editing is as important as filming in creating a great movie. Skill, experience and the right tools are needed and at Spartmedia we have the skills, experience and use the latest professional software and hardware for editing. It's the same editing systems used by Hollywood directors the Coen brothers for films including "Intolerable Cruelty" and "No Country For Old Men".
